HUNTINGTON, W.Va - The UIC volleyball team (0-2) dropped its first of two matches on Saturday with a 3-0 loss (25-22, 25-14, 25-18) to Marshall (1-1). The Flames conclude the Thunder Invitational at 4 pm CT with a match against Eastern Michigan (1-0).

Sophomore Kara Johnson led the Flames on offense for the second consecutive match with 11 kills on 26 attempts. Johnson had five kills in both the first and third sets. She has posted seven consecutive double-digit kill efforts dating back to last season. Johnson, who also compiled eight digs, owns 17 double-digit kill performances in her UIC career.

Junior Stephenee Yancy recorded double-figure kills for the second straight match with 10 on 23 attempts. She put down five kills on 14 attempts in the first set and four kills on seven swings in the second frame.

Freshman Kyisha Hunt was efficient on the attack with five kills and no errors on nine attempts. Hunt also added two block assists. Junior Molly McCoy had six kills and two blocks while senior Sara Jo Sternard recorded four kills, three blocks and a service ace.

Redshirt freshman Nicole Johnson dished out 30 assists and redshirt junior Tracy Friel led the Flames with 10 digs. Senior Maggie Strus added seven digs and a service ace.

Marshall led the entire way in a 25-22 first set victory and UIC scored the first two points of the second set before the Thundering Herd took control of play in a 25-14 win. UIC led the third set 17-16 following a Kara Johnson kill before Marshall scored nine out of the final ten points to end the match.
