DAYTON, Ohio - The UIC women's basketball team (16-12, 6-9 HL) dropped its road contest Wednesday night at second-place Wright State (22-7, 11-4 HL) by a final score of 74-54. The Flames made 50 percent of their field goals in the second half and outscored the Raiders 39-30 after halftime.
Wright State jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never trailed in the contest. The Raiders' largest lead came at 52-18 with 16:40 left in the second half. UIC outscored WSU by 14 from that point on.
WSU held a 42-34 advantage on the boards and became only the fourth opponent to outrebound UIC this season. The Raiders went to the free throw line 24 times and made 17 attempts from the charity stripe.
"You have to be aggressive and make shots to beat Wright State at their place. We did not do either of those things in the first half and dug ourselves a big hole," said UIC head coach Regina Miller. "We made half our field goals in the second half but it was too late. We look to take a solid second half performance into Cleveland State Saturday and pick up a much-needed victory to end the regular season."
Ruvanna Campbell collected her 21st double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. She had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the second half.
Campbell owns 11 20-point performances this season. She moved past Rachel Story (1,077 points) into 15th on UIC's all-time scoring list with 1,092 career points.
Kendyl Nunn was efficient in 27 minutes off the bench as she scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She was 2-of-2 from downtown and poured in 11 points after halftime. Nunn has nine double-figure scoring efforts in her first season at UIC.
Melita Emanuel-Carr scored 13 points and drained her team-leading 38th three-pointer. She had 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the second half. Emanuel-Carr is third on the squad with 14 double-digit performances this season.
The Flames close out the regular season Saturday (March 7) at Cleveland State (17-11, 9-6 HL). Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT inside the Wolstein Center. The Vikings won the first meeting between the schools (Feb. 4) with a 75-73 overtime victory in Chicago.
