MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The UIC baseball team (14-12-1, 9-4 HL) dropped a series-opening contest at Milwaukee (17-9, 6-6 HL) on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-1. Sophomore Jake Dahlberg (4-2) struck out seven batters through eight innings of work, but UWM's Brian Keller was eventually credited with the win as he allowed a mere one earned run during his six frames on the mound.
Dahlberg collected his third complete game of the season as the lefty gave up three earned runs, eight hits and one free pass on the afternoon.
After two scoreless frames, UIC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning as senior Jeff Boehm drove in sophomore Cody Bohanek off a single to right field.
Boehm and Bohanek paced UIC at the dish by going 2-for-4. Boehm upped his season RBI total to a team-leading 33, which ranks second in the Horizon League. Bohanek still fronts UIC in batting average with a mark of .366.
Milwaukee knotted the count at 1-1 in the sixth inning. The Horizon League's top hitter, Sam Koenig, plated Luke Meeter with a single up the middle for the Panther's first run of the day.
UWM grabbed hold of the lead in the seventh frame with a pair of runs and then cemented the final 4-1 tally with an additional score in the bottom of the eighth.
Series action will conclude on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at Noon CT.
