CHICAGO - The UIC women's tennis team (2-2) fell 4-3 against Akron (6-1) Saturday afternoon at XS Tennis. The Flames were strongest in doubles, taking two of three matches.

In singles, Oana Manole notched her first match win of the season at the No. 3 position, defeating Shannon Newnes 6-1, 6-4. Rachel Le Comber earned the other singles win for UIC, taking down Luisa Echeverry, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 for her third straight match victory on the season.

Jackie Altansarnai dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 1 against Ariadna Blinova, while Ann-Sophie Hahn fell to the Zips' Sophia Geier, 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. At No. 4, Martina Zerbola narrowly escaped Melika LeBlanc, 7-5, 7-6 (2). Bianca Zuzu won her first set 6-1 before dropping the next two 6-2, 6-3 to Carli Knezevich in the No. 5 position.

In doubles, Manole and Le Comber earned their second-straight win in the No. 1 position, defeating the combination of Geier and Newnes, 6-2. Hahn and LeBlanc were also victorious, taking down Blinova and Knezevich, 6-4 at No. 2. Altansarnai and Zuzu took a 6-0 loss to Zerbola and Echeverry in the No. 3 spot.

The Flames will continue their homestead next weekend against Bradley on Sunday, Feb. 21.
