Nashville, Tenn. – The Flames (3-3) battled #3 Vanderbilt (7-0) to the very end but fell 6-5 in 14 innings at Hawkins Field.

UIC wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning on an RBI single by Gabe Dwyer following a one-out double off the bat of Derrick Patrick. Right-hander Ian Lewandowksi (ND, 5.1 IP/4 ER) retired seven of the first eight batters faced before allowing the tying run in the third inning.

The Flames scored three times in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead as Dwyer collected his second RBI of the afternoon. Vanderbilt responded in the bottom half with three runs to tie the game at 4-4. Relievers Noah Masa (2.0 scoreless IP) and Trevor Lane combined to retire 12 consecutive batters and held Vanderbilt scoreless for seven innings.

In the 14th inning the Flames put up the go-ahead run on Tommy Norton's RBI single scoring Cody Bohanek from second base. UIC held a 5-4 lead in the bottom half and was one out away from the upset bid, but Vanderbilt tied the game on an RBI single and scored the winning run on a walk-off bases loaded walk.

Lane (1-1) suffered the loss while performing yeomen's work in relief striking out seven batters over 5.2 IP.

UIC will attempt to take the series finale on Sunday afternoon when they send right-hander Mitchell Schulewitz to the hill. First pitch is slated for noon CT.
