CHICAGO - The UIC women's tennis team (5-3) took a 6-1 loss against Big 10 opponent Iowa (9-3) on Saturday morning at XS Tennis. The Flames suffered their first loss after winning three straight in their first match of the season against a Big 10 opponent.
Melika LeBlanc represented the only win for UIC in the No. 4 position, defeating Aimee Tarun 6-4, 6-4. Jackie Altansarnai took the first set in the No. 1 position, but eventually fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to Anastasia Reimchen.
Ann-Sophie Hahn was defeated by Kristen Thoms at No.2, 7-5, 6-2 and Iowa's Zoe Douglas bested Oana Manole, 7-5, 6-4.
Rachel Le Comber's singles win streak was snapped by Adorabol Huckleby, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5, while Bianca Zuzu took a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Montana Crawford in the No. 6 position
Reimchen and Thoms combined to take down Manole and Le Comber at No. 1 doubles, 6-1. At No. 3 doubles, Natalie Looney and Tarun brought down Altansarnai and Zuzu 6-0. The No. 2 match between Hahn/LeBlanc and Huckleby/Douglas went unfinished.
The Flames will close out their home stand next weekend against Western Michigan (March 18) and Butler (March 19).
