Columbia, Mo. - The Flames (4-7) dropped the finale, 13-5, at Missouri on Sunday afternoon, losing three of four games during the weekend series. UIC wrapped up a stretch of seven straight games over the past two weekends against SEC opponents Vanderbilt (0-3) and Missouri (1-3).
UIC was victimized by the wind and long ball in the contest. With the wind blowing out to left field at 18 mph, Missouri took advantage of the conditions hitting four home runs. The Flames were spotted a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Alex Dee in the second inning. Missouri responded with two runs in the third with a wind-blown two-run homer off the bat of Jake Ring. The Tigers would tack on three additional runs in the fourth on two more wind-aided home runs.
Trailing 5-1 in the sixth inning, the Flames closed the gap to 5-4 on an RBI single by Scott Ota and a two-run double from Cody Bohanek. UIC would add another run in the eighth but not before Missouri plated seven runs between the seventh and eighth innings to put it out of reach.
Mitchell Schulewitz (1-2) took the loss allowing five runs on eight hits in 4.0 IP. Joe Rossi (2-4), Cody Bohanek (2-4, 2 RBI) and Alex Dee (2-4, 2 RBI) all recorded multihit efforts in the loss. Ricardo Ramirez extended his hitting streak to five games.
After spending the first three weekends on the road, UIC will finally play their first home game on Tuesday, March 8 at 5:05 pm CT against Northwestern at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
