CHICAGO - UIC (5-7) did not disappoint in their home opener. The Flames posted a convincing 11-2 win over Northwestern (4-9) on Tuesday evening at Curtis Granderson Stadium. In four of their five victories the Flames have scored in double digits.

The Flames spotted Northwestern a 2-0 lead before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning sending 11 batters to the plate. UIC played small ball recording four consecutive singles that lead to three runs. The Flames would tack on three more runs on RBI singles from Derrick Patrick, Rob Calabrese and Alex Dee. Gabe Dwyer concluded the scoring with a sacrifice fly RBI.

The seven run cushion was more than enough as Trevor Lane allowed one earned run on three hits in 6.0 IP. The left-hander struck out seven and improved to 2-1 while lowering his ERA to 2.30 in the process. David Cronin went 4-4 with two RBI and two stolen base while Rob Calabrese, making his first start of the season, smacked a two-run shot to left field and drove in three runs. Every starter reached base safely at some point during the game and five players collected two or more hits.

UIC will look to improve on their 5-7 start with a Friday afternoon game against the visiting Chicago State Cougars. First pitch is 3:05 pm CT at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
