CHICAGO - On a chilly night at Granderson Stadium the UIC bats were silenced as Northern Illinois walked away with a 5-2 win Tuesday in the non-conference tilt. The pitching staff surrendered nine walks on the evening of which three came around to score.

Starter Jake Dahlberg (3-6) took the loss lasting just one inning while allowing four runs (unearned) on two hits, the big blow, a two-run home run to Stephen Letz in the first inning. Northern Illinois added another run in the third inning on four consecutive walks from UIC reliever Mitchell Schulewitz.

The Flames mustered seven total hits in the game but were held hitless over the first 4.2 innings before Conor Philbin broke up the no-hit bid with a single to right field and was left stranded at second base. UIC got on the board in the fifth inning after back-to-back singles from Cody Bohanek and Wyatt Mascarella, David Cronin produced an RBI groundout to score Bohanek. Cronin would later add an RBI single in the seventh inning to extend his of reaching base safely to 25 consecutive games and his hitting streak to 13 in a row. The Flames had multiple opportunities to score in the later innings yet were unable to manufacture runs leaving seven runners on base (three in scoring position).

UIC jumps back into Horizon League play this Friday with a three-game series against Milwaukee at Granderson Stadium beginning at 6:05 p.m. CST. The Flames will send right-hander Connor Ryan (2-0, 1.67 ERA) to the mound in the opener. Ryan leads all Horizon League starters in ERA and faces the top two hitters in the league from Milwaukee in Daulton Varsho (.386 average) and Luke Meeteer (.385).
