CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team kicked off its Flames Invitational on a high note Friday as it picked up a combined 15 wins through doubles and singles competition, dropping just three of its matches.

Georgie Sanders,
Melika LeBlanc,
Rachel Le Comber and
Stefana Vasic all went undefeated on the day. Each singles victory by the Flames came in straight sets as the wins put Sanders, LeBlanc, Le Comber, Vasic and
Bianca Zuzu in the Championship final of their respective flights.

During doubles competition, LeBlanc and Sanders joined together to best Valparaiso's Randi Wind and Erin Staal, 6-0, and Cardinal Stritch's Alexi Loomis and Natalie Grieve, 6-3. The duo of Le Comber and Vasic additionally went 2-0 with wins over Valpo's Meg Modesto and Jordan Kopfer, 6-4, and Morgan Paras and Halle Roach, 6-0.

Zuzu competed alongside
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon, but the pair fell to CSU's Livia Hollosy and Volcy Boilevin, 6-3, and Valpo's Kathleen Hubble and Paige Heuer, 7-5.

In the Blue Flight, Sanders took out Hebble, 6-4, 6-1, and Loomis, 6-2, 6-2, to move on to the final, as LeBlanc advanced after ousting Hollosy and Boilevin in matching 6-2, 6-3 finals.

The Red Flight had Le Comber coming out on top of her two matches to head into the championship following wins against Modesto, 7-5, 6-2, and Heuer, 6-1, 6-1. Rodriguez won her first match over Wind, 6-3, 7-5, but came up short in the next round against CSU's Luise Gruber, 6-2, 7-5.

In the final Flames Flight bracket, Vasic captured a 6-0, 6-1 win over Roach and a 6-2, 6-1 victory against CSU's Emily Kaftan. Zuzu was dominate in both of her matches as she blanked both CSU's Jessica Pool, 6-0, 6-0, and Staal, 6-0, 6-0.

UIC will close out the final day of competition Saturday with a 10 a.m. CT start at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. The final round of doubles is set to kick off the day, followed by the remaining singles matches.
