INDIANAPOLIS – Junior
Bianca Zuzu has been the Horizon League Player of the Week for the period of Feb. 14-20, the conference office announced on Tuesday. It is the second such honor of Zuzu's career and the second consecutive week the Flames have been recognized by the League.
Â
Zuzu aided in UIC's effort of maintaining a perfect record at home as it took down Illinois State, 4-3, Saturday (Feb. 18) to own a 4-0 record in matches played at XS Tennis this season.
Â
The Flames picked up the doubles point for the third time this season with wins from
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber (No. 1) and
Georgie Sanders and
Stefana Vasic (No. 3). Le Comber (No. 6) and Sanders (No. 2) then brought UIC within one point of the win with victories in singles.
Â
Zuzu was responsible for clinching the match with her 6-1, 7-6 (2) victory at No. 4. The win was her second in straight sets and fourth overall, as she is also undefeated in matches played at home.
Â
The Flames take to the courts at Evergreen Racquet and Fitness in Evergreen Park, Ill., this weekend to close out their homestand. They will first be face with Kansas State at 1 p.m. CT Saturday and will then take on Evansville at 10 a.m. CT Sunday.
