Flames Prepare for Set of Weekend Matches

UIC will host Kansas State and Evansville at Evergreen Racquet and Fitness

CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (4-2) will conclude a four-match homestand this weekend as it hosts Kansas State (6-3) and Evansville (3-4) at Evergreen Racquet and Fitness in Evergreen Park, Ill. The Flames will first be faced with the Wildcats at 1 p.m. CT Saturday before closing out the weekend Sunday with the Purple Aces at 10 a.m.

UIC is back in action after posting a 4-3 victory over Illinois State on Feb. 18 to remain undefeated at home this season. The Flames picked up the doubles point for the third time this season and went on to win three singles matches.

Rachel Le Comber (2), Georgie Sanders (2), Melika LeBlanc, Stefana Vasic and Bianca Zuzu paced the team with wins, as Zuzu clinched the match and was named the Horizon League Player of the Week after picking up her fourth singles victory of the year.

The Flames have posted 17 wins in singles so far this season as Zuzu (No. 4) and Le Comber (No. 6) own a team-best four victories. The team has used seven different doubles combinations en route to eight wins, with LeBlanc and Le Comber (No. 1) and Le Comber and Vasic (No. 3) producing the most wins with two each.

This weekend's competition will be unfamiliar for UIC as it will be the first-ever meeting with K-State and just the second against Evansville, with the first match going to the Flames back in 1999.

K-State heads to Chicago with a 6-3 record after most recently picking up wins over North Texas, 6-1, and Washington State, 4-3, last weekend. The Wildcats have put together 37 singles wins, led by Livia Cirnu (7) and Carolina Costamagna (6), and own 13 wins in doubles with two at No. 1, six at No. 2 and five at No. 3.

Evansville is coming off a three-match set last weekend with wins against Valparaiso, 7-0, and Southern Indiana, 6-1, and a 6-1 loss to Ball State. Diana Tkachenko and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga have aided in the Purple Aces' 22 total singles wins with five apiece while primarily competing at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, respectively, while five pairings have been used in doubles to create seven wins, with three each at No. 2 and No. 3.
