EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. – The UIC women's tennis team (5-3) capped a four-match homestand with a decisive 4-3 victory over Evansville (3-6) Sunday at Evergreen Racquet and Fitness. The win moved the Flames to 5-1 in home matches this season.

UIC started the day down one point as the Purple Aces secured doubles. The duo of
Georgie Sanders and
Stefana Vasic first dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 3 before the point was clinched at No. 1 where
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber fell, 6-3.
Oana Manole and
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon went unfinished at No. 2.

The teams headed into singles and the Flames quickly took a 2-1 lead after Le Comber bested Andjela Brguljan, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 and LeBlanc took down Nicoli Pereira, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3. However, the next match at No. 1 went to Evansville as Manole was defeated by Diana Tkachenko, 6-1, 6-1.

The next two matches were split with Sanders outlasting Chieko Yamada, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 and
Bianca Zuzu falling short at No. 4 after a grueling three-set affair to Daria Pentsova, 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-0.

With the score knotted at 3-3, Rodriguez Diaz de Leon battled back from falling 7-5 in her first set at No. 5 against Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga to taking the second set, 6-2, and eventual match-winning set, 6-4.
Vasic additionally competed in an exhibition match against Leah Helpingstine and completed the 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

The Flames will face another pair of matches next weekend when they take the short trip to DeKalb, Ill., to face Northern Illinois on Friday at noon CT before turning home to host Akron on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Match Point Tennis in Griffith, Ind.
