Flames Capture 4-2 Win at Lipscomb

UIC improves to 4-1 over last five matches

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UIC women's tennis team (8-4) got its spring break off to a good start Saturday as it look down Lipscomb (4-12) in a 4-2 decision at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
 
With the Bisons down a player, two matches were played in doubles and the Flames were able to take the first point after Oana Manole and Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon came away with a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position. The match at No. 1 featuring Melika LeBlanc and Rachel Le Comber went unfinished.
 
UIC started off singles ahead 2-0 as Stefana Vasic won at No. 6 by default do to no player. Rodriguez Diaz de Leon continued to work the advantage in the Flames favor as she took down Jaclyn Findlay, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 for her sixth win of the season at the position.
 
Le Comber defeated while at No. 4 in a 6-4, 6-2 final against Thabile Tshatedi, but Georgie Sanders was able to clinch the match as Hannah Gamage withdrew at No. 2 with Sanders ahead 7-5, 2-1.
 
With the match already in the hands of UIC, LeBlanc had her match at No. 3 go unfinished. Manole competed in her first singles match since facing Evansville on Feb. 26 but she came up short against Viktoriya Dzyuba, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 1.
 
The Flames will cap their stay in Nashville on Sunday as they are set to take on Butler at 9 a.m. CT.
