CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (6-4) will welcome Niagara (1-9) to Chicago on Thursday morning for a 9:30 a.m. CT matchup at XS Tennis, where the Flames are a perfect 4-0 this season.
UIC split a pair of matches last weekend as it picked up a 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois (March 3) before falling a 7-0 decision to Akron (March 4).
Melika LeBlanc (No. 2),
Bianca Zuzu (No. 3),
Rachel Le Comber (No. 4),
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon (No. 5) and
Stefana Vasic (No. 6) all garnered singles victories, while they all also won in doubles in addition to
Georgie Sanders.
The wins from last weekend have aided in the Flames producing a total of 26 singles victories on the year. Le Comber leads the team with six wins, followed by Zuzu with five. Doubles has seen 11 matches come in UIC's favor with the tandem of LeBlanc and Le Comber being most effective with a 3-3 record at No. 1.
Niagara is without a win since beginning the dual season in January, while it collected an 8-1 win in the fall over Daemen College (N.Y.). Nine singles victories have been tabulated across five of the Purple Eagles' six players, while three wins have been added in doubles.
Thursday's meeting will be the first ever between UIC and Niagara, while the Purple Eagles already have some Horizon League experience under the belt having faced Youngstown State, Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State and Wright State earlier in the year all as 7-0 decisions.
