CHICAGO, Ill. – The UIC women's tennis team (17-5, 8-1 HL) concluded its regular season as champions Sunday as it finished at the top of the Horizon League for the 18th time in program history with a 7-0 sweep over Oakland (8-12, 4-5 HL) at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. It was the third-straight shutout for the Flames as they have now won 11 of their last 12 matches.

UIC will share the regular season title with Youngstown State and Cleveland State as they also turned out 8-1 records. With the tiebreaker, the Flames will have the No. 3 seed for the Horizon League Championship, set for April 28-30 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

With its first conference crown since 2013, UIC additionally reached a notable feat as its 17 regular season wins are the most for the program since 2010 when they came away with 18.

The Flames came out to take their third-straight doubles point and sixth in league play this season.
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon and
Stefana Vasic won their third match at No. 3 with a 6-2 win before
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber clinched the point with their 12th win of the year at No. 1 in a 6-3 final.
Oana Manole and
Bianca Zuzu went unfinished at No. 2.

Five of UIC's singles matches were able to be decided in straight sets. Le Comber impressively won her 10th straight in a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 5 over Sofia Borcuti. Rodriguez Diaz de Leon then shut down Marija Milic, 6-2, 6-0, for her eighth conference win at No. 6.

LeBlanc took her eight win of the season at No. 3 when she ousted Samantha Galloway, 6-2, 7-5, as Manole then came away with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 against Daria Artamonova for her eighth victory and sixth in league play.

After Zuzu picked up her 10th win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Amanda Nilsson at No. 4,
Georgie Sanders sealed the sweep when she bounced back from a first-set tiebreaker loss to claim the 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 10-5 match at No. 2 against Alexandra Whall for her 11th win of the year.

The Flames will begin preparations for the Horizon League Championship next weekend (April 28-30) at Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center, where they will be faced with No. 6 Wright State in the opening round.
