CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team concluded its annual fall invitational on Saturday, wrapping up a successful showing with five doubles victories and one singles victory in the final day to end the tournament with 11 singles victories and 8 doubles victories for a total of 19 victories across two days of play.
Valparaiso's Claire Czerwonka was crowned the singles champion, while the Flames' tandem of
Georgie Sanders and
Lejla Colic shared the co-doubles champion title with Mariya Kotsyuk and Iesha Shephard from Chicago State.
The Flames primarily played doubles in the third session of the Invite, with all five out of six UIC pairs beating their opponents.
Sanders and Colic grabbed a 7-5 victory over Valpo's Randi Wind and Jelena Vujanic, while
Viktoria Seifert and
Stefana Vasic topped Dao Sysouvanh and Claire Czerwonka from Valpo, 6-1.
Bianca Zuzu and
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon combined to best Meg Modesto and Jordan Kopfer of Valpo by a score of 7-5.
Rachel Le Comber and
Amelia Guevremont grabbed two doubles victories in day two, both against Crusaders. First against Erin Staal and Halle Roach by a score of 6-1 and finally against Dao Sysouvanh and Claire Czerwonka, also by a 6-1 margin.
Guevremont grabbed the singles victory for the Flames, blanking Staal in an extra match, 6-0, 6-0.
The Flames will make the short trip north for the Wildcat Invite, hosted by Northwestern, on Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
