Flames Condensed Homestand Concludes with Milwaukee

UIC battles the Panthers on Monday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (7-9, 0-5 HL) will wrap up three games in five days at home on Monday, Jan. 15, as they collide with Milwaukee (12-5, 3-2 HL) at 1 p.m. CT in the UIC Pavilion.

The Flames continue the hunt for their first Horizon League win of the season, as well as their first win at home in nearly a month. UIC is also looking for its first win against the Panthers since Feb. 25, 2015.

Starting Five
  • Taylor Toney was an offensive beacon for the Flames on Saturday (Jan. 13) against Detroit Mercy, in a game that saw little offense otherwise. Toney recorded her second double-double of the season, leading all scorers with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Brittney Byrd was also in the double-digits against the Titans, her fourth straight. Byrd tallied 16 points, which was also more than all Detroit Mercy scorers.
  • Tia Tedford received her first start of the season on Saturday, and handed out a career-high four assists while also bringing in five points.
  • The Flames are first in the Horizon League in turnovers forced.  They have a positive turnover differential in nine of 16 games, and forced Detroit Mercy into 24 turnovers on Saturday, compared to 16 of their own.
  • UIC also continues to sit second in the conference in offensive rebounds, with 15.8 per game.    Four players (Gabryelle Johnson, Tylah Lampley, Byrd, Toney) have at least one game with five offensive rebounds.  The Flames have out-offensive rebounded their opponents in 14 of 16 games, including Saturday against Detroit Mercy, with the Flames out offensive rebounding the Titans by a margin of 17-5 .
Last Time Out
  • UIC continued its comeback ways at home on Saturday against Detroit Mercy, but ended up falling short, 61-58.
  • The Flames erased what was once a 16-point deficit to come within one point of the Titans, but were unable to complete the comeback for the third-straight game.
  •  UIC experienced some shooting woes, making just 31.7 percent of all shots, its lowest mark in conference play thus far.
Presenting the Panthers
  • Milwaukee comes to Chicago after a pair of home wins against Cleveland State and Youngstown State. The Panthers defeated the Vikings 79-72 on Thursday (Jan. 11) and narrowly escaped the Penguins on Saturday, 62-61.
  • Jamie Reit put up a buzzer beater jumper to lift Milwaukee over Youngstown State, in a game that was close throughout with 11 lead changes.
  • The Panthers' top scorer Steph Kostowicz notched the 28th double-double of her career, recording 17 points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Panthers are second in the confernece in scoring defense, allowing just 59.2 points on average per game.
  • Milwaukee is also top in the League in free throw percentage, making 74.9 percent of its shots from the charity stripe.
  • The Panthers have also proven themselves strong on the boards, as they lead the Horizon League in rebounding margin with a +9.5 mark.
