Flames and Raiders tip off Sunday at noon CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (2-10, 0-1 HL) closes out its two-game homestand as it welcomes Wright State (9-4, 0-1 HL) to Credit Union 1 Arena. The two teams are set to tipoff on Sunday at noon CT.

Starting Five
  • Sophomore Jada Nneji blocked a career-high six for the Flames defense on Friday against Northern Kentucky, the most by a single player since Ruvanna Campbell stopped six on Feb. 28, 2015 against Oakland.
  • Senior Brittany Byrd has scored in double figures in her last seven appearances. She ranks third in the Horizon League in scoring with 16.0 points per game.
  • Byrd is quickly approaching the 1,000-career point marker, owning 946 career points. The senior will be the first player to eclipse 1,000 career points since Campbell racked up 1,671 points from 2013-16.
  • Junior Tylah Lampley has been UIC's primary contributor off the bench thus far, ranking third on the squad in points (58) and fourth in rebounding average (3.1 per game). Lampley is the Flames' most efficient shooter, making 42 percent of her shots. The Homewood, Ill. native led the squad in both points (16) and rebounds (5) on Friday against Northern Kentucky.
  • The Flames lead the Horizon League in steals, averaging 9.0 thefts per contest. The Flames have recorded more steals than their opponents in five contests (Loyola, Miami, Evansville, Indiana State, Fairfield and Northern Kentucky), and have reached double digits in steals on five occasions: Nov. 27 at Eastern Michigan (11), Dec. 1 against Miami (14), Dec. 8 at Indiana State (14), Dec. 21 against Fairfield (11) and Dec. 28 aginst Northern Kentucky (11).

With a win, UIC would:
  • Win its third game of the season
  • Snap a 12-game skid vs. WSU
  • Capture its first Horizon League Win
  • Improve to 2-4 at home
Last Time Out
  • The Flames opened up Horizon League action against the Norse on Friday, falling 67-49.
  • UIC had two players with double-digit scoring efforts in Tylah Lampley (16) and Brittany Byrd (14).
  • The two teams ended the night even in attempts, but the Norse were more efficient, making 43.9 percent of all shots compared to 37.5 percent for the Flames.
  • The Norse were also aided by a 45 percent showing from beyond the arc.
Raider Write Up
  • The Raiders come to Chicago after an overtime win in their Horizon League opener against IUPUI, 78-75.
  • Wright State owns the top scoring offense in the League, averaging 72.1 points per contest.
  • The Raider offense is held up by three players averaging in double figures, Michal Miller (12.9 ppg), Mackenzie Taylor (11.9 ppg) and Angel Baker (10.1).
  • The Raiders are also number one in rebounds, led by Simone Simmons's 5.6 rebounds per game average.
  • Wright State has won the last 12 meetings between the two teams, and has a 33-28 advantage all time.
