Men's Gymnastics Prepares to Face #3 Nebraska

First Road Meet of Season Poses Tough Challenge

The UIC men's gymnastics team will return from a brief hiatus to take on #3 Nebraska Saturday afternoon in Lincoln.  Links to follow the meet, which starts at 4 pm, via live scoring, are in the blue box to the left.

The Flames showed improvement from their first meet of the season to the second, and will have had nearly three full weeks of training and practice before getting back to competition against the Cornhuskers.

Through the Rotations
  • Asad Jooma owns the team's top scores on the floor exercise and the vault.  His 14.000 on the vault in the Flames' last meet is the only individual score higher than 13.550 on any apparatus.
  • Satchel Hudson posted 72.450 points in the all-around competition to set a career high on January 21.
  • Hudson was the ECAC's Gymnast of the Week, and Jooma was the Specialist of the Week, following their most recent performances.
  • Wes Diveney's 12.400 led four Flames with scores of 12.100 or higher on the still rings, after no Flame topped 11.800 in the first meet.
  • Steen Haugsted finished in the top 10 in the parallel bars amongst a talented field that included Iowa and Stanford.
  • Freshman Sam Montague added 0.850 to his score on the horizontal bar, adding to an impressive start to his career.
Last Time Out
  • The Flames added over 11 points to their team score at the Windy City Invitational when they competed against two Top-10 teams in Stanford and Iowa.
  • The rings and floor exercise saw the biggest jumps in team scores.
  • UIC's best apparatus was the vault, where they scored 67.500.
  • Jooma finished sixth in the vault for the Flames' top individual finish.
Scouting Nebraska
  • Nebraska posted the nation's best team vault score (73.200) in their last meet, setting a school record in the process.
  • Kyle King was the overall winner in the vault, and Antonio Castro took the pommel horse title in a meet with Stanford and Oklahoma.
  • King is third, and Anton Stephenson is first in the country, in average vault score.
  • The Cornhuskers' floor squad has accumulated the highest average score in the country.
  • Nebraska visited UIC Pavilion last season and took home a 406.300-367.950 win.
