Men's Gymnastics Faces #8 Michigan

Fifth Top-10 Opponent Closes Regular Season

After nearly a full month away from competition, the UIC men's gymnastics team will return to action Saturday afternoon for its final meet before the ECAC Championships.  The squad will travel to Ann Arbor to take on a Michigan team searching for some consistency of its own entering the postseason.

Through the Rotations
  • The Flames' depth is evidenced by the fact that six different gymnasts have the team's highest average on each of the six apparatuses.
  • Asad Jooma has been the team's best performer on the vault.  His season average of 14.033 is third in the ECAC.  He has been named the conference's Specialist of the Week three times for his success on vault.
  • Sam Montague has shown consistent improvement over his freshman season.  He set season highs on the floor and the high bar in the Flames' last meet.
  • Satchel Hudson was the team's top all-around performer until five-up scoring began in early March.  Competing in all events except high bar, he has increased his five-event total across the two meets since.
  • Liam Maddon set a season high on still rings for the second time in three meets when the Flames were last in action.
  • Michael Peluso showed improvement in two of his three events in the last meet.  He set a season high on the high bar.
Last Time Out
  • In the second five-up meet of the season, the Flames added five points to their team total from the first.
  • Much of that increase came on rings, where Maddon, Hudson, and Wes Diveney led the way.
  • Peluso and Montague set season highs on the horizontal bar.
  • Since the meet nearly a month ago, the team is hopeful that key contributors Steen Haugsted and Tyler Ball will be able to return from injuries that have kept them out of the lineup.
Scouting Michigan
  • Michigan led Penn State through five rotations, but gave up the lead on the final event in their last meet.
  • The Wolverines boast two of the top five floor performers in the country.
  • Emyre Cole has the team's top average on floor, vault, and parallel bars.
  • The team's highest score this season was 411.850 on February 3.  Michigan has seen swings of six-plus points in their total in three of their last four meets.
