CHICAGO - First-year women's basketball head coach Tasha Pointer is getting the experience of a lifetime globe trotting in Senegal, Africa, alongside her daughter, Nariah. Catch her first blog post on the trip's experience below:

"Greetings from Beautiful Senegal! This has been an experience of a lifetime for my daughter, Nariah and I. I am fortunate to travel the world to some of the worlds most amazing countries, and by far Senegal is one of them. The Senegalese are a direct reminder to me of the depths of goodness that resides within the hearts of many.

Our first experience in Senegal began with lunch at a Senegalese's home where we learned the customary way of community dining. Everyone ate from one large pot with rice, vegetables, and meat.

What's interesting is that everyone enjoyed the meal but more importantly we all connected with laughter and conversation. There was authentic conversation about life, hopes, and dreams. Even those who were done eating sat around and talked with each other until the last person finished. The gathering around meals fosters love and awareness for community. I am grateful for this opportunity. Until next time!"
