Flames Defeated at Wisconsin

UIC falls 7-0 in second-straight Big Ten matchup

MADISON, Wis. – The UIC women's tennis team (1-2) took on its second-straight Big Ten opponent on Friday evening in Wisconsin (2-0), and was dealt a 7-0 loss. The Flames went up against two top-50 singles players in the Badgers' No. 1 and 2 positions, but ultimately came up short.

Doubles Highlights
Sara Castellano and Anna Markova defeated Lucie Prochazkova and Karyna Bihel from the No. 1 position, falling 6-2. Lexi Keberle and Ava Markham bested Lejla Colic and Georgie Sanders at No. 2, 6-1, to give the Badgers the doubles point, while MaryAnn Rompf and Christina Zordani faced off with Georgia Gulin and Rachel Le Comber at No. 3 and went ahead 4-3 before the match went unfinished.

Singles Highlights
No. 43 Keberle defeated Bihel at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, while Ava Markham got the best of Gulin at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1. Makarova won over Prochazkova from the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-2, and Colic came up short against No. 31 Castellano, 6-3, 6-3. Nell Arendt was back in action in the No. 6 spot against Zordani, just missing the first set 7-5 before dropping the next 6-0. Sanders put up a fight against Rompf, but ultimately fell 6-4, 7-6 (5).
