@UICWBB Welcomes Eastern Illinois for Home Opener

Flames and Panthers face off Saturday at 2 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (0-3) will make its home debut this weekend, welcoming in-state rival Eastern Illinois (1-2) to Credit Union 1 Arena. The Flames and Panthers tip off on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. CT.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UIC wrapped up its season-opening road trip with a pair of Big 12 foes in Kansas and Kansas State.
  • The Flames fell 91-50 to the Jayhawks and were dealt an 84-40 loss by 2019 NCAA Tournament participant K-State.
  • The Wildcats dished out 11 threes and shot 45.2 percent, while keeping the Flames to just 24.6 percent from the field.

YOUNG SQUAD
  • Freshman Tiana Jackson led all newcomers in the season opener at Purdue Fort Wayne, tallying five points and one rebound, while making three steals
  • On Sunday at Kansas, Jackson upped her game, racking up eight points, while handing out a team-high four assists.
  • Burks turned in impressive performances against both Kansas and Kansas State, collecting nine points and six rebounds against the Jayhawks and eight points against the Wildcats.
KEYS TO THE GAME
  • Sophomore Kiarra Thompson has already reached double figures in two of UIC's three games, collecting 14 points in the season opener at Purdue Fort Wayne and picking up 10 points on Monday at Kansas State.
  • The junior was a perfect 4-of-4 against the Wildcats, with half of her shots coming from beyond the arc.
  • Thompson's 2.0 triples per game puts her into a tie for second amongst Horizon League shooters.
PANTHER POINTS
  • Eastern Illinois is 1-2 this season, defeating Lindenwood (88-66) in its season opener before falling to Indiana State (59-57) and Loyola (67-51).
  • Karle Pace gets the job done all over the court for the Panthers, leading the team in points (18.7 ppg), rebounds (4.3 per game) and assists (3.3 per game).
  • Three other Panthers are averaging double figures after the team's first three games: Abby Wahl (12.3 ppg), Taylor Steele (11.7 ppg) and Jordyn Hughes (10.0 ppg).
  • Last season the Panthers finished 11-18 overall with a 5-13 mark in Ohio Valley Conference action.
