Flames add five to 2021 roster

CHICAGO – UIC softball head coach Lynn Curylo announced on Tuesday that the Flames will be adding five players to its roster for the 2021 season. The signing class includes a trio of players from California as well as two Illinois natives. 

Emma Crowley
Hometown: Peoria, Ill.
High School: Peoria Notre Dame
Intended Position at UIC: C
PREP/PERSONAL: Lettered three years in softball at Peoria Notre Dame High School … helped her team to win the conference championship in her freshman and sophomore years … named First Team All-Conference her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons … was named to the Third Team All-State her freshman year, Second Team All-State her sophomore year and First Team All-State her junior year … earned First Team All-Area honors in her sophomore and junior years … led her team in home runs, doubles, RBI and batting average in her sophomore and junior years … set the school record for most home runs in a single season … can play the clarinet … enjoys volunteering at children's hospitals … daughter of Kim and Dan Crowley … intends to major in integrated health studies at UIC.

Hometown: Chicago, Ill.
High School: Whitney M. Young
Intended Position at UIC: INF
PREP/PERSONAL: Three-year letter winner in softball at Whitney M. Young High School … also lettered one year in swimming … won the City Championships in 2016, 2017 and 2019 alongside her teammates … won a Regional title with her team in 2016, 2018 and 2019 … hit a walk-off homerun to give her team the Regional title in 2019 … helped her team to the first Sectional Championship in CPS history in 2019 … her team set the IHSA record for most doubles in a single season … led her team in home runs her junior year … named to the All-City Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019 … earned Third Team All-State honors in 2018 and 2019 … was a Principal Scholar in 2017, 2018 and 2019 … was an Honor Roll member in 2017, 2018 and 2019 … daughter of Charles and Maritza Garcia ... her father Charles Garcia played baseball at UIC from 1988-89 … her birthday falls on Halloween … intended on studying chemistry at UIC.

PREP/PERSONAL: Attends Bishop Amat … helped her team to three-straight championships in the Del Rey League … earned the title of Most Valuable Player in her junior year … was named Offensive Player of the Year in her freshman season … won the USSSA tournament and was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher … enjoys being part of campaign teams that raise awareness for cancer research … daughter of Lucia Gomez … intended major at UIC is kinesiology.

PREP/PERSONAL: Attends Lancaster High School and lettered in softball … was named Academic Player of the Year her freshman year … Earned the title of Pitcher of the Year and was named Second Team All-League her sophomore year … Garnered the title of MVP and earned a spot on the First Team All-League her junior year … was a member of NSHSS her sophomore and junior years … four year Honor Roll/Principals List … top-10 in her graduating class … helped her team to a PGF National Championship in 2019 … advanced to round three of CIF SS playoffs in the last three years alongside her team … led her team in ERA, strikeouts, innings pitched and wins … pitched a no-hitter to help her high school team advance to round two of the playoffs … daughter of Dawn and Troy McIntosh … plans on studying kinesiology with a concentration in movement science at UIC.

PREP/PERSONAL: Lettered three years in softball at Warren High School … helped her team advance to the playoffs every year thus far … earned the Freshman Offensive Player Award … won the Defensive Player Award and was named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team her sophomore year … led the entire League in homeruns during her sophomore season … was given the Iron Bear Award her junior year and was once again named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team … tallied the most RBIs in the League in her junior year … was named All-CIF in her junior season … daughter of Albert and Anna Sillas … intends to major in kinesiology at UIC.
