Women’s Tennis Set to Face Michigan in NCAA First Round

Flames and Wolverines square up Friday at 1 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The Horizon League Champion UIC women's tennis team (20-5) will make its way to Ann Arbor, Mich. this weekend to compete in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Flames will be facing host No. 16 Michigan in its first-round match, which is set to get underway on Friday, May 3 at 1 p.m. CT.

The NCAA Tournament bracket follows a single elimination format, with the winner of the first-round match advancing into the second round.

UIC earned its first tournament berth since 2013 season after winning its 18th Horizon League title in program history. The Flames took care of No. 5 Wright State 4-1 in the semifinals on Saturday (April 27) and toppled No. 2 Cleveland State 4-0 in Sunday's (April 28) championship match. UIC's championship win was also its 20th victory of the season, tying a program record.

Michigan owns an 18-5 record overall after winning its second-straight Big Ten Tournament title on Sunday. The Wolverines boast four ranked players in No. 3 Kate Fahey, No. 48 Chiara Lommer, No. 49 Brienne Minor and No. 82 Giulia Pairone.

Also competing in the first round at Ann Arbor are Kentucky (18-8) and DePaul (11-11), who will be competing head to head on Friday at 10 a.m. The winners from Friday's two matches will meet in the second round on Saturday (May 4) at noon.
