ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The UIC women's tennis team (20-6) tied a ribbon in its historic 2019 season on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 to No. 16 Michigan (19-5) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Flames finish wrap up a season that saw the program's 18th Horizon League title and first NCAA appearance since 2013.
Doubles Highlights
Lejla Colic and
Georgie Sanders were bested by top-ranked No. 37 Brienne Minor and Kate Fahey in the No. 1 match, 6-0, and
Rachel Le Comber and
Georgia Gulin fell to Alyvia Jones and Lera Patiuk at No. 3, 6-1, to put Michigan up 1-0. The No. 2 match featuring
Karyna Bihel and
Lucie Prochazkova against Giulia Pairone and Anca Craciun was tied 3-3 before going unfinished.
Singles Highlights
No. 3 Fahey took care of Colic at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0, to push Michigan's lead to 2-0. Bihel was bested by No. 80 Pairone, 6-1, 6-0, and Prochazkova was defeated by No. 50 Minor, 6-3, 6-1, to give the Wolverines the clinch. The No. 4, 5, and 6 matches all went unfinished in the second set.
