The Flames return home and will look to make it two wins in a row on Sunday when they face South Dakota at Flames Field. The holiday weekend match starts at noon, and admission is free.
The first matchup between the programs is also the only home match in a four-match stretch. Starting September 12, the Flames will play four in a row at home.
UIC topped Toledo on Thursday to take their first victory of 2019. They enter play with a 1-1-1 record. South Dakota's ledger after three matches stands at 1-2.
South Dakota won a program record-tying nine games last year, and returns All-Summit League midfielder Taryn LaBree.
It is also the first time the Flames will take on a Summit League team. They will quickly gain familiarity with the conference, as they will play Western Illinois next Thursday.
Last Time Out
- Emma Main scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Toledo Thursday. Her strike was a thing of beauty, volleyed in perfectly from 30 yards just under the crossbar in an impossible position for the keeper to defend.
- Lena Kurz made a career high seven saves.
- Sydney Gratz, Tamae Douglas, Grace Haines, and Megan Bowman were all instrumental in turning away the Rockets' advances and dispossessing them in the final third.
Flames to Watch
- Kurz has allowed just one goal in three matches. She has a .938 save percentage.
- Keri Birkenhead has a team-high six shots. She is tied with Main for second on the squad with three attempts on net.
- Emily Kavanaugh has placed four of her five shots this season on goal.
Scouting the Coyotes
- South Dakota arrived in Chicago in time to play Loyola on Friday.
- An 89th minute goal by Jordan Centineo was not enough as the Coyotes fell to Loyola, 2-1.
- South Dakota has played their opposition to a statistical deadlock. Total goals, shots, shots on goal, and saves are all virtually identical between the Coyotes and their three foes.
Statistically Speaking
- UIC is tied for the Horizon League lead having allowed just one goal all season.
- Kurz' goals-against average of .310 is tops in the conference. She is tied for first with two shutouts, and ranks second in save percentage.
- Only two keepers in the country have more shutouts than Kurz.
