Showdown with Green Bay Slated for Saturday

Flames Face Final Horizon League Opponent of Regular Season

The Flames will look to build on the momentum they established last weekend when they travel north for a dual meet at Horizon League rival Green Bay on Saturday.  With only one more swimming competition to follow before the conference championships, the opportunity looms large for individuals to shore up their events.

It is also the only time the team will swim in a foreign pool until the conference meet.  The Senior Day meet at home next weekend, and the UIC Diving Invitational February 1, are the remaining meets the team will compete in before taking a break to train and taper for conference.

UIC is ranked third in the College Swimming women's Horizon League ratings, a mere half point behind Cleveland State.  Green Bay is fifth.  On the men's side, the Flames are also third but with Green Bay nipping at their heels in fourth place, less than five points behind.

The teams have swam against each other already this season.  Green Bay competed at the IUPUI House of Champions, a three-day meet in November.  UIC's men and women both outscored the Phoenix that weekend.

The meet will begin at 1 pm, an hour later than the previously announced time.

Last Time Out
  • The Flames women completed a 4-0 weekend with wins over IUPUI and Cleveland State on both days of a triple dual meet at UIC Natatorium.
  • UIC's men split with Cleveland State across the two days of competition last weekend.
Flames to Watch
  • Felix LaFortune is the reigning Horizon League Male Diver of the Week, following his four first place finishes in four events.
  • Cydney Liebenberg won the Female Diver of the Week honor.  She also went 4-for-4 on the boards.
  • Danny Sivak won all four of his individual events and led off two victorious relays.  He has won the 100 back in five of eight races this season.
  • Emily Sullivan won two races and took second by 0.05 second.  She was part of two first place medley relay teams.
  • Christina Neri has the Horizon League's top times of the year in the 1000 and 1650.
  • Hunter Crook and Luke Hutchinson are both owners of top-five times in the conference in the 1000 and 1650.
Scouting the Opposition
  • Green Bay defeated D-II Northern Michigan in their return to action last week.
  • The Phoenix have split their Horizon League dual meets, getting wins over Cleveland State and losing to Oakland.
  • Emilie Boll set a pool record in the 100 breast.
  • Max Boehlein won three individual events and a relay.
