CHICAGO – The 2019-20 UIC women's basketball squad was one of the youngest in the nation, owning an average age of 19.25 as a team made up of half freshmen. All that young talent required guidance, and the Flames looked to their lone senior member, Tylah Lampley.

Lampley got her start as a two-year varsity letter winner at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, guiding her team to a combined 42-11 over that span. The Vikings went 22-3 in her senior year, winning conference, regional and sectional titles.

In her first year at the collegiate level, Lampley saw time in 24 games, averaging 8.1 minutes. As a freshman she made 43.1 percent of her field goals and had two double-digit performances.
Lampley made strides in her sophomore season, making the first six starts of her career and ending the season with seven double-digit showings. In what was just her second season, Lampley led the team in blocks, finishing the season with 25 total rejections.

Junior year saw Lampley average 20.1 minutes per game, primarily as a bench contributor for the Flames. The junior saw double figures on seven occasions, finishing the year averaging 7.6 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game, making 12 blocks and 19 steals on the defensive end.

Lampley's senior year was unfortunately cut short due to injury, but not before making valuable contributions in 23 games of action. Lampley was at the top of the squad in several offensive categories, ending the year with an average of 9.8 points while also bringing down an average of 5.1 rebounds. Defensively, Lampley tallied the second-most blocks with 17, and she also swiped the ball away 30 times.

The Homewood, Ill. native finished as UIC's top scorer six times in her final year, and she reached double figures 11 times. Lampley picked up the first double-double of her career with an impressive outing at Chicago State (Dec. 4), tallying a career-high 31 points to go with 11 rebounds. It was the first time that a Flame had eclipsed 30 points since her former teammate Brittany Byrd had done so on Jan. 6, 2018.

The guard/forward brought in one more double-double her senior year, tallying 11 points to go with a career-high 13 rebounds in UIC's overtime win on Jan. 4 at home against Oakland.

In her four seasons, Lampley accumulated over 600 points and nearly 300 rebounds, making over 60 blocks and nearly 100 steals during her time as a Flame. Lampley shot over 36 percent overall, 29 percent beyond the arc, and made 66 percent of her free throws while wearing a UIC uniform.

Lampley plans to graduate UIC in December with a degree in Disability and Human Development.
