@UICWBB Travels to No. 3 Wright State for First Round Matchup

Flames and Raiders face off Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT

CHICAGO – The No. 10 seed UIC women's basketball team (3-26, 2-16 HL) will begin its postseason run on Friday, traveling to No. 3 Wright State (18-11, 13-5 HL) for the first round of the Horizon League Tournament. The Flames and the Raiders will tipoff on Tuesday, March 3 at 6 p.m. CT inside Wright State's Nutter Center.

WITH A WIN, UIC WOULD:
  • Improve to 4-26 on the season
  • Advance to the Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinal round
  • Improve to 29-37 all-time against Wright State
  • Snap a 16-game losing streak against the Raiders
  • Win its second road game of the year
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Flames closed out the regular season on Friday night, taking an 87-51 loss to regular season champion IUPUI.
  • Jada Nneji (17 points, seven rebounds) and Kimeira Burks (11 points, eight rebounds) both finished in double-double territory for the Flames, taking home their 15th and 10th double-digit scoring performances, respectively.
  • In addition to her 11 points, Burks matched her career high with eight rebounds. She also set a new personal best with five assists.
  • The Flames tallied more assists than the Jags, 11-10, but the home team held the advantage in rebounds, 51-40.
  • IUPUI shot 46.7 percent (35-of-75) overall, compared to 32.4 percent (22-of-68) for the Flames. UIC was stronger from three, making 27.3 percent (3-of-11) of their long shots compared to 16.7 percent (4-of-24) for the Jags.
NNEJI'S BLOCK PARTY
  • Junior Jada Nneji entered Friday's season finale needing one block to move into fourth place all-time at UIC, and she finished with four to bypass fourth place and move into third, passing up recent Flames legend Ruvanna Campbell with 143 stops.
  • Nneji was named to the 2019-20 Horizon League All-Defensive Team on Monday after averaging 2.2 blocks per game this season to lead the Horizon League and rank 30th nationwide.
  • Nneji is the lone Flame to average in double figures, scoring an average of 11.3 points per game to rank 12th in the Horizon League. She leads the team with 15 double-digit scoring performances this season after scoring a team-high 17 points on Friday at IUPUI.
  • The senior leads the squad and ranks eighth in the League in rebounds, averaging 7.3 boards per game.
  • The Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada has made two or more stops in 15 appearances, including a season-high six on Feb. 6 at Oakland.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
  • Wright State secured the No. 3 seed in the tournament after a 13-5 showing in Horizon League play this season.
  • The Raiders begin the post season as the League's number one team in rebounding offense, pulling down an average of 43.6 rebounds per game. They also lead the conference in offensive boards, averaging 16.8 per game.
  • Wright State is at the top of the conference in blocks, averaging 4.10 stops per game.
  • All-League First Team honoree Angel Baker leads the team and comes in at second in the League in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. Baker also comes in as the League's runner-up in assists, handing out an average of 3.8 per contest.
  • Tyler Frierson earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team, leading the conference with 9.0 rebounds per game and coming in second in blocks, making an average of 1.4 stops per game.
  • Wright State has the advantage all-time, 37-28, after taking both regular season meetings.
