CHICAGO – UIC baseball signee Ben Hernandez was selected with the 41^st pick in the 2020 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals.
 
Hernandez, who signed a National Letter of Intent with the Flames this past fall, becomes the second UIC commit in as many years to be selected in the MLB Draft. Tyler Schlaffer was taken with the 282^nd overall pick by the Chicago Cubs.
 
A 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher, Hernandez attend De La Salle High School in Chicago.
