CHICAGO — The UIC baseball team (9-20-1, 4-5 MVC) fell to Northwestern (13-15-1, 5-7 B1G) by a final score of 15–4 on Wednesday night at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium. The Flames managed five hits, including a double and a triple, but Northwestern's five home runs were pivotal in the outcome.
Jared Lessman started for the Flames, pitching 2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits, including 2 home runs, while striking out 3.
Michael Vitellaro and
Keegan Luxem provided brief relief appearances, with
Vitellaro recording 2 strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning and
Luxem throwing 3 pitches for 3 strikes.
Will Flanigan demonstrated his skill at the plate with a triple and two walks in his four plate appearances.
Thomas Curry contributed to the team's offensive efforts by scoring one run and driving in another.
Lucas Smith added momentum with two hits, including a double, while also crossing home plate once.
Colin Husko was a key figure with two RBIs, but the UIC offense could not keep pace with the Wildcats Wednesday night.
