By rallying to draw with Green Bay on Sunday, UIC generated some momentum. Against Youngstown State Saturday, the Flames will look for momentum from the outset and their first Horizon League win.
UIC has had success against Youngstown State, having won the last five head-to-head matches and six of the seven all-time. The Penguins enter with a 1-7-3 overall record, and a 1-1-2 mark in conference play.
Positives were in abundance in the Green Bay match. UIC rallied from a 2-0 deficit, got contributions from several first-time starters, had season highs in shots and shots on goal, and carried the match from the 70
th minute through two overtime periods.
David Nikolic praised the team's work rate and attention to detail, and noted that his options in assembling lineups were expanded based on the contributions of several players.
Megan Bowman scored UIC's first goal against the Phoenix to give her a team-high two on the season. Freshman
Sara Sanabria made her debut in net, and earned credit for the draw.
Youngstown State allowed a season high seven goals, including one in just three seconds off the opening kick, in their 7-0 loss to Milwaukee Sunday. That loss snapped a three-match unbeaten streak, and a run of four results in five matches. Three Peguins have two goals on the season. One of them, Regan LaVigna, also leads the team with two assists. Three keepers have divided the duties in net. Brooklyn Kirkpatrick earned credit for the team's lone win, while Mackenzie Simon has one shutout.
