CHICAGO – Following a standout performance at the 2021 Horizon League Cross Country Championships, the UIC men's and women's cross country programs turn their attention to the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 12, hosted by the University of Iowa.

The women's 6K race will take place at 11 a.m. before the men's 10K action begins at noon. The Midwest Regional will be held at the Ashton Cross Country Course. A total of 34 teams will be in action on the women's side while 31 teams will toe the line in the men's race.

UIC is familiar with the course, having opened this season at the Hawkeye Invitational back on Sept. 3. In the season-opening meet, the men finished second in the field while Teresa Mejia broke the school's 4K record at the meet.

Last time out, the UIC men finished third and the Flames women finished fourth at the Horizon League Championships, surpassing where each team was selected to finish in the Horizon League preseason poll. Carlos Cabrera became the first men's runner in program history to capture an individual title when he crossed the line in 25:36.8 to win the conference title.
