UIC's men's and women's tennis teams were named ITA All-Academic Teams for the 2020-21 season.
Additionally, 13 student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
It is the third straight season that the women's team has earned the team award.Â
Nell Arendt,
Georgia Gulin, Maria Hermanny de Figuieredo, and
Lucie Prochazkova were named Scholar-Athletes for the second straight year. All eight members of the team were honored, as
Agnes Gustafsson,
Ana Jover,
Tamara Malazonia, and
Tuva Wallin also earned the distinction.
Five men's players – Luiz Dos Santos, Anthony Nguyen, Casey Schrader, Gustavo Schwebel, and Pelle Strandberg – made the Scholar-Athlete List. Nguyen earned the honor for the second time. The men's team was also recognized as a group with All-Academic status.
Earlier this summer, the squads were named recipients of the Horizon League Raise Your Sights award, which is given to the men's and women's team at each institution with the highest GPA. UIC's men turned in a 3.63 GPA during the 2020-21 academic year, while the women posted a 3.87 GPA.
Teams must have a total GPA of at least 3.2 to be considered for ITA All-Academic honors. Individuals with a 3.5 or higher GPA for the current academic year are eligible for Scholar-Athlete recognition.
