Jover Qualifies for Super Regionals as Flames Succeed at ITA Regionals

Three Flames Combined to go 8-3 in Singles and Doubles

Ana Jover went 4-0 in singles play to highlight a strong performance by all three Flames who qualified for ITA Regionals, held over the weekend in Champaign.  Jover's perfect record into the quarterfinals put her through to Super Regionals in late October.

"This is the best we have done, with three people in Regionals," Shannon Tully said.  "We played deep into the weekend in singles and doubles and defeated several Big Ten opponents."

Jover started her run in the round of 128, where a rocky first set gave way to a quick second set in a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Eastern Michigan.  She was a straight-sets winner in the round of 64, dispatching the #10 seed Lauren Lemonds of Michigan State, 6-3, 6-2.  The top 16 finishers qualified for Super Regionals, and Jover's round-of-32 match was played with an intensity that reflected those stakes.  She rallied for a 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Michigan's Anca Craciun.

Jover capped her weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nastasya Semenivski from Wisconsin.

Dominika Hrabalova got out of the round of 128 with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over an Ohio State Buckeye.  She bowed out in the round of 64 to Michigan State.  Agnes Gustafsson, who was seeded into the round of 64, topped a player from Illinois, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to Wisconsin, 6-2, 6-3.

In the doubles draw, Gustafsson and Jover plowed through Eastern Michigan, 8-2, and the #11 seed from Northwestern, 8-3, to make it to the round of 16.  There, they fell to #3 Notre Dame in a tight match, 8-6.

This is the first year of the Regional-Super Regional format.  Jover will begin Super Regional play October 22 at Ohio State.  The entire team will make its dual match debut Friday at Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
