UIC women's basketball (2-14, 1-10 Horizon) will host their second home game of the weekend against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons (5-14, 4-8 Horizon) on Saturday, Jan. 29. The Flames are looking to grow off their strong effort against Cleveland State and leave Credit Union 1 Arena with a statement victory.
In the Flames' last match-up, UIC played a tight game against one of the top teams in the Horizon League in Cleveland State.
Leah Yarbrough stood out against the Vikings, giving the Flames a strong spark off of the bench defensively and offensively. Yarbrough finished the game with a career-high eight points and three blocks.
Jaida McCloud was a standout as well, grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with 12 points, her third double-double of the season. Despite the 54-45 loss, the Flames showed some serious improvement and effort against the Vikings.
In Purdue Fort Wayne's last game, the Mastodons fell to the IUPUI Jaguars, 74-55. The Mastodons allowed 50 points in the first half and were unable to climb the hill back into the game. Purdue Fort Wayne was led in scoring by
Aubrey Stupp, who finished with a game-high 21 points. Purdue Fort Wayne is near the bottom of the Horizon in rebounding numbers, averaging 33.5 boards per game. If the Flames can play with the same effort shown against Cleveland State, then they have a great chance of walking off the court with a victory.
Tip off is scheduled for Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago.
