@UIC_WBB returns to play after a three-game pause in play. The Flames have returned to Chicago and are eager to get 2022 started with a win over their in-conference opponent, Milwaukee.Â
UIC's (2-7, 1-3 Horizon) last game came on Dec. 18 against the Saint Louis Billikens. The Flames fell in that game, 75-47, but saw some key production out of
Keona Schenck. Schenck knocked down four 3-pointers during that game, scoring 12 points, her fourth double-digit scoring output this season.
Jaida McCloud led the team in scoring overall with 15 points, her eighth game leading the team in scoring. McCloud also dished out a season-high four assists and grabbed six boards against the Billikens.
Milwaukee (5-8, 4-2 Horizon) most recently won against Detroit Mercy via forfeit. In the last game they played, the Panthers fell 66-53 to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The Panthers' top scorer on the season,
Megan Walstad, was held to nine points on the game.
McKaela Schmelzer scored a team-high 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 38 minutes of play.Â
Milwaukee is one of the stronger rebounding teams in the Horizon League, wrangling 35.5 boards a game and holding the opposing team to 33.3. The Flames have struggled with rebounding thus far in the season, grabbing 28.8 rebounds a contest and allowing 40.6 boards per game. Where the Flames shine against the Panthers is the turnover margin. UIC is forcing 17.5 turnovers per contest, while Milwaukee averages over 18.3 a game. UIC's ability to force the Panthers into bad decisions could be a difference-maker in Thursday's game.
Tip-off for Thursday's game will be at 6:30 p.m. CST on Jan. 6.
