INDIANAPOLIS - UIC softball senior infielder Tara McElligott was named the Horizon League Player of the Week after a spectacular weekend of play in the San Diego State Tournament. McElligott led the team offensively, notching seven hits in 12 at-bats, recording seven RBI and two home runs, including a grand slam. 

The infielder finished with a .583/.667/1.333 slash line on the weekend, hitting for 16 total bases. The senior is kicking the season off with a bang following a stellar junior season. 

The Flames went 2-3 on the weekend, defeating Cal Poly 1-0 and Middle Tennessee 2-1. UIC will be back in California this weekend at Stanford for a five-game tournament.
