UIC fell to Northern Kentucky, 4-3, in the Flames' Horizon League opener Sunday afternoon.  The teams split the doubles matches, with the Norse claiming victory due to taking the singles point, 2-1.

"Pelle, Gustavo, and Ammar had strong wins," Hans Neufeld said.  "Anthony and Kevin lost tough three-setters.  We need to improve in doubles and change out the lineup."

Doubles Results

• Northern Kentucky jumped out to and early lead with a 6-3 win over Kevin Kruzel and Ammar Wazir at #3.
• The Flames got right back in it when Pelle Strandberg and Artem Iermolov finished off a 6-2 win on the #2 court.
• Luiz Dos Santos and Francesco Tacconi, playing together for the first time, fell 6-4 at #1.

Singles Results

• Wazir got a point for the Flames with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #5.
• Anthony Nguyen fell by a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 count at #4.
• The Norse moved to within one win of the team victory when Tacconi lost a decisive tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (4) at #3.
• Kruzel battled in a three-set match, but was unable to come up with the key shots down the stretch in a 7-6 (1), 2-6, 7-5 battle at #6.
• Schwebel showed poise in the final games as he closed out a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win at #2.
• Strandberg also got back in the win column thanks to a comeback, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at #1.
