CHICAGO – Seven former members of the UIC baseball program will suit up for minor league clubs across the country as the 2022 baseball season is underway.

Jake Dahlberg | P | Richmond Flying Squirrels | AA – San Francisco Giants

Jake Dahlberg is in his first season with the Flying Squirrels making 10 starts in 2021 with the Eugene Emeralds (High A) and one start with the Sacramento River Cats (AAA). Between the two teams, Dahlberg recorded three wins while striking out 71 over 55.1 innings of work. Entering the 2022 season, Dahlberg was named the opening day starter for the Flying Squirrels.

Reid Birlingmair | P | Lansing Lugnuts | High A – Oakland Athletics

Reid Birlingmair is in his second season with the Lugnuts after spending the entire 2021 season with the club. The pitcher made 21 appearances out of the bullpen, pitching 103 innings. Birlingmair struck out 84 batters while limiting hitters to just a .233 batting average.

Cody Bohanek | SS | Syracuse Mets | AAA – New York Mets

Cody Bohanek starts his first full season with the Syracuse Mets after getting called up midway through the 2021 season. Bohanek appeared in 34 games with the AAA affiliate a year ago, registering 17 hits, including four doubles, a triple and a home run. Through two games played in 2022, Bohanek is batting .333 with a double.

Charlie Cerny | P | Lansing Lugnuts | High A – Oakland Athletics

Charlie Cerny is in his second season with the Lansing Lugnuts after appearing in 20 games with the team a season ago. Cerny pitched 26.2 innings, with 19 of his 20 appearances coming out of the bullpen, striking out 20 batters on the season.

Trevor Lane | P | Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders | AAA – New York Yankees

Trevor Lane is in his second season with the RailRiders after appearing in 17 games out of the bullpen a season ago. Lane excelled in the pen, finishing with a 4-0 record with a stellar 1.99 ERA. The pitcher struck out 28 batters while limiting hitters to a .241 batting average. Lane has already made an appearance in the 2022 season, working two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and not allowing a hit.

Mickey McDonald | OF | Las Vegas Aviators | AAA – Oakland Athletics

Mickey McDonald is in his first full season with the Las Vegas Aviators after splitting time between the Athletics' AA and AAA affiliates last year. McDonald appeared in 56 games with the Aviators a season ago, batting .333 with 11 doubles, three triples and a home run to go along with 22 RBI. Through two games in 2022, McDonald is hitting .250 with a double.

Scott Ota | OF | Brooklyn Cyclones | High A – New York Mets

Scott Ota is in his second season with the Brookly Cyclones after appearing in three games during the 2021 campaign. In his three games a season ago, Ota hit .273 with a trio of base hits. This will be Ota's second season at the High A level after playing the 2019 season with the Kingsport Axmen (Rookie-level). With the Axmen, Ota hit .273 with 26 RBI, including 14 doubles, five triples and seven home runs.
