Ashleen Bracey announced Tuesday (May 3) the second member of her inaugural signing class with the addition of Josie Filer.

Josie possesses leadership qualities that will help us lay the foundation of this program. Josie has expressed a great deal of passion for our vision here at UIC and is committed to working to help us establish a championship caliber program."

Filer joins the Flames as a graduate transfer after spending the last four seasons at Omaha. A Des Moines, Iowa native, Filer has one year of eligibility remaining after appearing in 80 games while making 75 starts for the Mavericks during her four-year career.

A 6-foot-1 forward, Filer is coming off a season where she averaged a career-best 7.7 rebounds per contest. As a junior in 2020-21, Filer averaged a career-best 10.6 points per game after scoring 10 or more points in 11 contests. That season, Filer poured in a career-high 26 points to go along with nine rebounds in a 105-102 overtime victory against Western Illinois.

For her career, Filer scored 10 or more points 26 times while bringing in 10 or more rebounds on 12 occasions. Filer has several career double-doubles, including a game against Oral Roberts this past season where she brought in a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with 14 points. Filer recorded a double-double as a junior with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a win over South Dakota State, who entered the contest 21-3 on the season and a perfect 14-0 in Summit League play.

Filer was a four-year letterwinner at Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines where she set the school record with 25 rebounds in a single game. Filer also played travel basketball for the All-Iowa Attack during her prep years.
