Aleksa Bucan is ranked well within the top 100 in the Division I Men's Singles rankings, released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).  Bucan checked in at #69 in the nation ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Bucan qualified for the ITA National Championships last fall by virtue of reaching the final in the singles draw at ITA Regionals.  He won his first match at nationals en route to a national ranking that peaked at #27.  Six of his 20 overall singles wins came against SEC opponents.

Bucan is the first UIC men's tennis player to appear in the national rankings.  He transferred to UIC from Arkansas prior to this academic year.  He rejoined his Razorback assistant coach Jovan Parlic, who is in his first season as head coach of the Flames.

The full rankings, which count the top 125 players in the nation, are dominated by Power 5 players.  No other Southland Conference team has a player in the rankings.

The Flames will play in several invitationals and tournaments this fall, before entering dual match play in the new year in their first season in the Southland Conference.  The full 2022-23 schedule will be released in the coming days.
