Chippewa Invitational in Store for Women’s Golf

Flames conclude fall season at 36-hole event in Birmingham, Mich.

CHICAGO (Oct. 15, 2023) – The UIC women's golf team concludes its fall season this week at the Chippewa Invitational, held at the Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham, Mich.
 
INVITATIONAL INFORMATION
  • The two-day 36-hole event will run from Monday through Tuesday. Teams will play one round each day with a 10 a.m. ET shotgun start. This will be UIC's first 36-hole tournament of the 2023 fall season.
  • Seven programs will be participating in this year's event. Along with UIC, the other competing schools are host Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Ferris State, Green Bay, Oakland and Youngstown State.
  • The Birmingham Country Club is a 5,897-yard Par 72 course.

  • This is the first event the Flames have competed at in the state of Michigan since participating at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Sept. 2017. 
LOYOLA PARKINSON INVITATIONAL RECAP
  • The Flames placed third in the team standings at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational after shooting a +54 (918) at the Merit Club in Libertyville, Ill. UIC's team score of 918 was the seventh-lowest 54-hole team score in program history.
  • With temperatures sitting in the high 40's and low 50's along with strong winds and a fast green, none of the participants recorded a score lower than +6.
  • Graduate student Dasa Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic/Menlo College) finished tied for second in the individual standings after shooting a +9 (225) over the 54-hole invitational. This was the third event in four competitions Urbankova has finished in the top three in the individual standings. The graduate student won individual titles at the Butler Fall Invitational and the Brittany Kelly Classic.
  • Senior Megan Tang (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's) finished tied for ninth in the individual standings at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational. The event was Tang's second top-ten finish this fall. The senior finished in third at the Butler Fall Invitational.
  • Brooke Beyer placed 19th after shooting +19 (235) over 54 holes. Her best round came Monday when she shot a 74.
  • Competing as an individual, Chaewon Jeong (Seoul, South Korea/Laurel Springs School) finished tied for 19th with Beyer after shooting a +19 (235). The tournament was her highest finish of her collegiate career. 
2023 FALL SCHEDULE
  • The Chippewa Invitational is the final of five events the Flames have competed at this fall.
  • UIC has already participated at the Brittany Kelly Classic in Muncie, Ind., the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colo. the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis and the Loyola Parkinson Invitational in Libertyville, Ill.
  • The 2024 spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
