EVANSVILLE, IND. – The UIC women's basketball team (14-11, 6-8 MVC) begin its two-week road trip in the state of Indiana, beginning with taking on Evansville (10-13, 5-9 MVC) Friday night at the Meeks Family Fieldhouse. The Missouri Valley Conference's Game of the Week's tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN3.
MATCHUP BREAKDOWN
- This will be the second time the Flames and the Aces are set to battle it out on the hardwood this season. Back on Jan. 7, in front of a home crowd at Credit Union 1 Arena, UIC was victorious, 57-53. Josie Filer led the Flames offensively, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Jaida McCloud also netted 15 points in the game and had seven boards.
- The Flames have won the last three meetings against the Aces, but Evansville leads the overall series, 9-6.
- Evansville's Abby Feit remains one of the top scorers in the Missouri Valley Conference. She is the seventh top scorer in the MVC at 14.9 PPG.
BRACEY MAKES HISTORY
- In her first season as head coach, Ashleen Bracey and her staff have made history in the Missouri Valley Conference for biggest win-based turnaround in the league's basketball history.
- The Flames have already improved their win total from the previous season by 12 wins, with six regular-season games left on their schedule before Hoops in the Heartland beginning March 9.
DEFEATING DRAKE
- UIC completed their weekend homestand with a big win over Drake (14-8, 9-5 MVC) on Sunday, 64-52.
- The Flames were led by McCloud who scored 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. It was the junior's first double-double of the season. Tiana Jackson and Danyel Middleton each netted nine points.
- Having a net ranking of 53, Drake was UIC's first victory against a top 60 net ranked opponent this season.
JOSIE AND JAIDA'S JOURNEY TO 1,000
- Filer scored seven points in the victory over Drake and is now 58 points away from 1,000 points in her collegiate career. Filer remains the leading scorer for UIC, averaging 12.2 points per game.
- McCloud has scored in double figures now for six consecutive games and is now 77 points away from 1,000 career points.
