Track & Field Records Fall at Notre Dame Meet

Multiple Flames Made UIC’s All-Time Best Lists at the Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IND. – UIC's men's and women's track and field teams split up this weekend to compete in two different invites, the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, and Illinois Wesleyan's Keck Select.

The Flames returned home on Saturday with a new school record and five new personal bests. At the Meyo Invitational, the Flames were among 20 teams, including schools from the ACC, Big Ten, and MVC.

MEYO INVITATIONAL

MEN –
  • Dathan Maton represented the Flames in the Ryan Shay 3000m Run, placing sixth. His time of 8:17 broke the school record, which he set on Jan. 20.
  • Daniel Chavez was not far behind Maton. He came in fifth place in the 3000m run (8:31). He now ranks seventh in UIC record books.
  • In triple jump, Georgios Siomos marked at 29m, putting him in sixth place.

COACH'S COMMENTS

"Witnessing Dathan re-set his own 3000m school record in the premiere event of the MEYO invitational was a historic moment in our program history," said Interim Head Coach Paul Zavala. "We are getting ready for another weekend of high-level competition, and I'm excited to see how many more additions we can make to our all-time best lists."
 
KECK SELECT INVITATIONAL

WOMEN –
  • In the 400m, Brooke Klatkeiewicz crossed the finish line at 1:01, coming in second place. Haley Dahl came in a couple seconds later (1:03).
  • Coming in 13th, Cassandra Ogburn ran in 5:33.

On Friday Feb. 10, the Flames will head to Allendale, Mich. for the second time this season for the GVSU Big Meet.
