Baseball Erupts For 10 Runs in Tuesday Win

Flames Take Down Western Illinois in Midweek Bout

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team opened a five-game home stand Tuesday as it welcomed Western Illinois to Granderson Stadium. After jumping out to an early advantage, the Flames were able to stave off a late Leathernecks rally to earn their ninth win of the season.
  • Cole Conn opened the scoring for the Flames Tuesday, hitting a two run home run down the right field line in the first inning.
  • Charlie Szykowny, the next batter, hit a no-doubt home run to right field to put the Flames up 3-0.
  • A Carson Roberts RBI single closed the first inning scoring for UIC, who now led 4-0.
  • After the Leathernecks answered with three in the third, AJ Henkle belted a solo home run to put UIC up 5-3.
  • The Flames added a run in the fourth, and broke the game open in the fifth, adding four runs on a Clay Conn 2 RBI single and a Carson Roberts 2 RBI double to bring the score to 10-3.
  • The Leathernecks answered with three in the eighth, but the Flames were able to shut the door, earning the 10-6 win.
