CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team opened a five-game home stand Tuesday as it welcomed Western Illinois to Granderson Stadium. After jumping out to an early advantage, the Flames were able to stave off a late Leathernecks rally to earn their ninth win of the season.
- Cole Conn opened the scoring for the Flames Tuesday, hitting a two run home run down the right field line in the first inning.
- Charlie Szykowny, the next batter, hit a no-doubt home run to right field to put the Flames up 3-0.
- A Carson Roberts RBI single closed the first inning scoring for UIC, who now led 4-0.
- After the Leathernecks answered with three in the third, AJ Henkle belted a solo home run to put UIC up 5-3.
- The Flames added a run in the fourth, and broke the game open in the fifth, adding four runs on a Clay Conn 2 RBI single and a Carson Roberts 2 RBI double to bring the score to 10-3.
- The Leathernecks answered with three in the eighth, but the Flames were able to shut the door, earning the 10-6 win.

The Flames will return to Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday, March 31. They are home for a three-game series against Indiana State. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. CDT Friday from Curtis Granderson Stadium.
