Softball Falls Short in Extra Innings Thriller Against Missouri State

Six Members of the Flames Landed Hits in the Game

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The UIC softball team suffered a 4-3 loss to Missouri State in extra innings on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Flames took the early 2-0 lead when Missouri State dropped a fly ball off the bat of junior Anna Walker, allowing sophomores Grace Fleming and Jojo Santiago to score.
  • Sophomore Hailey Cowing hit her team-leading sixth double to center field and was later brought home on a base hit from Walker, who earned her third RBI of the series.
  • Junior Miranda Gomez started her ninth game in the circle, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing two walks, and striking out one.
  • Senior Carlee Jo Clark relieved Gomez and pitched a full inning, facing five batters and allowing zero runs.
  • Senior Christina Toniolo made her 29th appearance this season, throwing 4.0 innings and striking out four batters on just two hits.
FLAMES FIREPOWER
  • Sophomore Larissa Ortiz, who had an RBI double in the Flames' win over Loyola on Wednesday, has hits in three of the last four games.
  • Fleming continued to get on base for UIC, and has now reached base in three of the past four games.
  • Walker tied redshirt-senior Maica Ingles for the most hits on the team, with 23, after going 1-for-5 in the game.

  • The series against Missouri State concludes Sunday with a 12 p.m. start time.
