Softball Drops Sunday Showdown Against Missouri State

Flames Collect Six Hits, Plate Four Runners Against the Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  The UIC softball team concluded its series against Missouri State Sunday afternoon, falling to the Bears 9-4.
  • Sophomore Jojo Santiago scored the Flames' first run of the day, stealing home on a double steal.
  • Freshman Tess Altevers Harris hit her first RBI since Feb. 11 against North Texas by hitting a double to left center in the fifth, scoring sophomore Grace Fleming.
  • Later in the fifth, after sophomore Hailey Cowing scored on a pass ball, Altevers Harris scored on a double to right field off the bat of junior Anna Walker.
  • Senior Carlee Jo Clark started the game in the circle and threw 2.2 innings, striking out three and walking three batters in her 23rd appearance of the season.
  • Senior Christina Toniolo (2.1 IP) and junior Miranda Gomez (1.0 IP) each had relief appearances in the game, striking out one batter and walking one batter each.
OFFENSIVE FEATS
  • Walker went 1-for-3 in the game and now leads UIC in hits with 24 on the season.
  • With her fourth RBI in the series, Walker also leads the Flames in RBIs with 10.
  • Fleming extended her hitting streak to three games after going 1-for-2 in the game and has had five hits over the past five games for the Flames.
  • Santiago landed two hits in the series and now has the second-best batting average on the Flames (.237).
BATTLING THE BEACONS
  • The Flames four-game road trip ends Wednesday with a midweek clash against Valparaiso.
  • Wednesday's contest will take place at the Valpo Softball Complex with a 4 p.m. start.
  • The Beacons won the first meeting between the two programs 2-1 at Flames Field on Apr. 4. Toniolo and Gomez combined for seven strikeouts against Valparaiso, the most strikeouts for the Flames in a game this season.
